The workshop revolved around DIY microscopy. Participants learn how to transform an ordinary USB web camera into a powerful microscope and observe the amazing world of tiny things.

In diesem Workshop werden 3-4 Teilnehmer/innen zusammen aus gewöhnlichen Webcams optische Mikroskope bauen. Damit können die Teilnehmer/innen dann die Welt der Mikroben entdecken. Mit im Gepäck ist unser Star der Sammlung: Euglena gracilis. Diese kann sich selber durchs Wasser bewegen und ist Licht empfindlich. Mit Hilfe ihrer Handys werden Teilnehmer/innen mit der winzigen Mikrobe interagieren. Teilnehmer/innen dürfen auch gerne ihre eigenen Proben mitbringen und diese dann unter dem Mikroskop näher betrachten. Teilnehmer/innen lernen nicht nur das Innenleben einer Webcam kennen, sondern auch wie Linsen funktionieren und wie man damit vergrößern kann. Weiter wird gezeigt, wie man Proben für das Mikroskopieren vorbereitet um dann die Welt der Mikroben zu erkunden und auch seine eigene DNA anzuschauen.

The SVG drawings in case you would like to laser cut the parts yourself. A PDF of the assembly guide and a folder with the individual pictures. Also the 3D model in Sketchup format is provided for you to modify and improve the design.
Report
Fifteen teams succeeded in building a microscope and explored the wonderful world of microbes. WetWareWorks brought Euglena gracilis, a microbe that moves, and more interesting samples. Soon the participants started to put their own samples under the lens, such as hairs and saliva.
